       Once the richest city in Chinese history, Yangzhou locates in the middle of Jiangsu province and is very famous for its gardens. It borders Taizhou and Yancheng to the east, Liuhe District of Nanjing and Tianchang of Anhui province to the west, Zhenjiang to the south separated by the stretches of Yangtze River, Huaian to the north. Across the city flows Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, from south to north, which converges with Yangtze River. It has historically been the transportation hub of water and land, and the stronghold of harbor between South and North China.

      Yangzhou currently has three districts (Guangling, Hanjiang and Jiangdu) and three counties (Gaoyou, Baoying and Yizheng), covering a total area of 6638 sq. kilometers with a population of 4.6 million. Yangzhou is one of the first 24 historic and cultural cities approved by the state. It has been awarded as China's first batch of excellent tourist city, National Ecological Model City, National Pilot City of Informatization, National Model City of Civilization, National Sanitary City, National Model City of Environment Protection. In addition, it has won China Habitat Environment Prize and UN-HABITAT's Best Practice City Award.

From late April to mid-May of the Gregorian calendar, Yangzhou celebrates its annual Flowery March Festival.
